HOUSE CONCURRENT RESOLUTION NO. 46
(By Mr. Speaker, Mr. Kiss, and Delegates
Spencer, Staton and Mezzatesta, et al)
Requesting the higher education governing bodies to adopt a
tuition waiver policy for students involved in community
service, including students providing assistance to other
students with disabilities.
Whereas, The federal government has established a program to
provide financial assistance to college students who are employed
in community services; and
Whereas, Many college students with disabilities fight
overwhelming odds to participate in college education programs;
and
Whereas, Students who work as readers for the blind, peer
monitors or in any other capacity which enables more students to
benefit from a college education are performing a valuable
community service; and
Whereas, Over forty thousand children in this state have been
identified as having a disability; therefore, be it
Resolved by the Legislature of West Virginia:
That the higher education governing bodies are hereby
requested to recommend a fee waiver policy for students involved in community service, including students providing assistance to
other students with disabilities; and, be it
Further Resolved, That the Clerk forward a copy of this
resolution to each member of the Board of Directors of the State
College System and to each member of the University of West
Virginia Board of Trustees.
